The Best Iranian Restaurant
There are tons of restaurants around town that serve up some delicious Persian cuisine, but there are only a few really good ones. Here's our top three picks for excellent Iranian food and drinks, plus a couple extra dishes you might not have tried before. For more information on dining out in Dubai, click here.
Tereshk Polo (Lamb Shank)
Perhaps one of my all-time favorite dishes, Tereshk Polo is lamb shank slowly cooked with limoo omani (dried lime), tomatoes, potatoes and zucchini. It's flavors are rich but not heavy; every bite will leave you wanting more. If you're looking for a truly authentic Iranian meal experience, make sure to save room for an order of Tereshk Polo.
Bademjan Polo (Eggplant Stew)
This rich stew is made with tender aubergines, onions, tomatoes and plenty of spices. It’s like a vegetable version of comfort food. Often served with rice or rice noodles, it can also be enjoyed as a side dish. The taste and texture make it feel indulgent—you’ll forget you’re eating something that’s so good for you!
Ghormeh Sabzi (Green Herb Stew)
This traditional Persian dish is all about fresh herbs, and you can’t get much fresher than that! It makes a perfect light lunch, and with lots of healthy options like kidney beans, kidney beans, chickpeas and green herbs to choose from, it’s super tasty too. The dish doesn’t contain any meat either so it’s one that everyone can enjoy.
Lavashak Polo (Beef with Flatbread)
This traditional Persian dish is served on a bed of flatbread, which you use to wrap up each morsel as you eat. The tender meat is mixed with onions and saffron and served with grilled tomatoes and peppers. This mouthwatering meal also comes with homemade yogurt flavored with mint or garlic.
Astar Gormeh Sabzi (Herbed Meatballs)
Astar Gormeh Sabzi is a hearty green stew that mixes herbs, meat and beans. It’s served with fried eggplant and rice on top of shredded basil leaves. This dish originated in Tabriz, a city located near Iran’s western border. (Etihad City Centre) $11-13*
Kosi Sangak (Deep Fried Cheese Rolls)
This delicious dish is perfect for vegetarians or anyone who likes a cheesy, light snack. These are fried bites of dough stuffed with cheese. Just make sure you don't bite into one until it's cooled down a bit or else your mouth might not be as happy as your stomach.
Shishlik Al Ghassemiya
A typical Persian dish, shishlik is marinated and roasted cubes of beef. It's often served with fresh lemon juice on top. It's delicious as a light starter or as a side with rice and steamed vegetables. Al Ghassemiya serves it with grilled onions and tomato alongside your main course. If you order their Chicken Kebab Gharch, we highly recommend you try out their Shishlik Al Ghassemiya.
